description[1] ="I will be there on Tuesday night - looking forward to it. Why am I running the London Marathon?
In respect of me.....

I've always enjoyed running and particularly the feeling of completing an event - 5k, 10k, Half Marathon .....

(I would say race but I have never been that good a runner!). So to be asked to run in the London Marathon by Martin Coyne was a no brainer. In respect of what I am helping to do.....

The money I will raise from sponsorship is going to make a difference and I think all the charities represented at the London Marathon are worthwhile causes. For me the GNO is a bit special - it's local to me in Birmingham, does amazing work and every penny goes to help hundreds of people – making their dreams come true and improving the quality of their lives. So I will be helping those who simply don't have a choice - and that means at lot to me.";

description[5] ="My name is Huw Duggan and I work for Kendall Edwards. This is my 10th year in the big wide world of recruitment, prior to this, and in what seems like a lifetime ago, I played and coached rugby for Bristol and latterly Coventry.

I suppose sport and fitness has always been a major part of my life and although I used to play wing or full-back I always had an affinity for distance running – I suppose I had to be good at something! In my (very) early days I completed the inaugural Kingswood (Bristol) marathon and also a couple of half marathons, but this was when I was young, fit and fearless!

Now I’m 45 and, when invited to take part in the 2008 London marathon as part of the GNO team, I heard myself saying yes when inside my head my mind was telling me NO – you’re too old and injured – what are you thinking of!

I wish all my fellow runners well over the next 5 dark and wet months and hope with your support that the 2008 GNO team can raise huge amounts of money for this most worthy of causes. description[7] ="My name is Phill Machell - I am a husband, the Father of two fantastic boys, a business owner and sadly the wrong side of 35 years old (yes I know I look older but I had a very hard paper round as a child - lots of Sunday supplements) - in summary, an all round normal sort of Joe.

I have always set myself targets - in my younger days my focus was all about sport and getting a foot hold onto the dreaded rat race. Along came my mid 20`s (like a whack around the head) and my focus changed to that of \"choice\".

For me, \"choice\" is my eternal driver. It is the very need to be able to choose that motivates me for everything I do (except pay council tax, but lets not open that particular can of worms!)

Support and comfort often comes at a huge financial cost - My goal is to make a difference at the coal face of crisis. I want to raise money for people who through no fault of their own find themselves in need of support and comfort. I choose to run the marathon for the GNO because it is an honour to do so.

But most of all, I am running because I can. Because I care and because I want to make a difference!";

description[9] ="I look at this marathon as a challenge with a cause!

As one person once wrote:

\"Challenges are what make life interesting- Full filling them is what makes life meaningful.\"

How true this is! I felt honoured to have been asked and knowing what a difference raising this money will make to so many children makes every pain I have endured through training worthwhile!";

description[11] =" I had the privilidge of attending the Gentlemans Night Out annual charity dinner in 2006 and came away from that evening thinking what a great job the GNO does in fulfiling the dreams of terminally ill children.

I have been a keen runner since University, and have previously run both the New York and London Marathon. After a 3 year break from long distance running, I thought it was time to give the marathon another go. I know from past experience that whilst the training will be tough, the atmosphere on the day will be electric and a few days with sore legs will be a small price to pay for a very worthwhile cause";

description[13] ="Some of us are fortunate enough to have opportunities present themselves regularly either through sport, business or by other means and we have a choice to either take those opportunities or let them pass us by. Sadly some people are less fortunate than others and everyday things we take for granted are not available to them.

Every year the GNO work incredibly hard to help create similar opportunities for children less fortunate than us and over the last 40 years have made the dreams come true for so many people and their families. I was lucky enough to attended the 2007 GNO Extravaganza and saw the benefits of the time and effort put in by the supporters of this wonderful charity and the joy that they have brought to so many children.

To be given the chance to run the London marathon is a great opportunity but to be a part of the GNO and to help create opportunities for these children is something that not many people would be able to turn down.

Please give your support to the GNO this year for all the team running the marathon. Its a tough task but worth every second of it!";
